Twittering with BlogBridge

Filed under: BlogBridge — Pito Salas on 9:34 am

As you saw in my previous post, we are really excited about getting Twitter support into BlogBridge. I think it’s an absolutely perfect extension to what BlogBridge does. I feel there is (or will be) an almost exact overlap between people who need BlogBridge and people who choose to either create or follow Tweets.

So, as promised, here’s our current concept of what Twittering with BlogBridge might look like:

  • A new Twitter SmartFeed which will allow the full suite of twitter queries to be specified just like Twitter itself
  • Twitter results are displayed in a Twitter and BlogBridge appropriate way, not duplicating the title and the body, with appropriate treatment of # and @ tags, etc.
  • Hovering over a @name tag will display profile information for the person. Right clicking it will offer some commands like follow, unfollow, message, message, and so on.
  • A “Tweet This” command displays a standard tweet box, optionally pre-filled out with the text that was selected, including automatic tinyurl support
  • Other microblogging services can be supported by writing a microblogging plug in for BlogBridge.

Please, if you care about BlogBridge and Twitter, let us know your feedback on this suite of features! Email me, tweet me, post to our forum: you know how to get to us :)

Preview of BlogBridge Twitter Support

Filed under: BlogBridge — Pito Salas on 8:37 am

Lately microblogging services like Twitter have been getting more and more attention. I admit I didn’t quite ‘get’ the Twitter idea until recently.

I was actually inspired by a couple of Guy Kawasaki posts about using Twitter for purposes other than “i am about to make myself another cup of coffee.”  Here are two links:

Based on this reading and study as well as good natured encouragement from some of our favorite users, we have decided to add robust support for Twitter and microblogging to BlogBridge.

(In case you have not seen BlogBridge before, here’s a one page summary of why you may care.)

Indeed the idea is totally consistent with BlogBridge’s mission to be the ultimate tool for info-junkies. Twitter and it’s friends have become major tools for those of us who need, as part of our jobs, to keep up and respond to the constantly exploding information on the broader web.

We are currently almost done with the design of the feature, which I will outline in a post later today. If you have any suggestions and refinements this is the time to weigh in. Please post your ideas as comments to this piece.
