[Update: 2:00pm EST]
Dear users,
Everything is back to normal. As far as we can tell no information has been lost by anyone. Thanks for your patience.
– Pito
Dear users,
We’ve experienced a database outage which is affecting the BlogBridge Service. The only effect you will see is that your BlogBridge Sync command will be greyed out.
We are working around the clock to repair the problem and then update our systems to avoid this happening in the future. We expect everything to be back to normal by the time you read this.
Our apologies and I will keep you updated.
Pito Salas

Recently a presentation from Google about Google Reader was leaked. There’s a treasure trove of information about Google Reader, their plans, features, and behavior that they have seen. This observation caught my eye in this post from Google Blogoscoped:
2/3 of the content has only one subscriber. Think about feeds for own-name-searches, own blogs and blog comments. There are feeds with up to tens of millions of subscribers. The crawl rate of feeds is prioritized when they’ve got more subscribers. They’re updated within one hour when there’s more than one subscriber, or else once in three hours.
(from: Leaked Google Video Discusses Google Reader, Social Efforts)
I can’t say I have a theory to explain this. Maybe two-thirds of all blogs are only read by the author? Not sure what it means, but it’s interesting

David Herron is a prominent blogger in the Java world. I couldn’t help smiling when I saw this recent post: “Dilbert Mentions Java.”
Yes the Dilbert was funny, but what actually makes me smile is that David is showing off his aggregator, which happens to be BlogBridge, and the latest weekly edition no less.
Cool!

Why did it take so long for Google Reader (GOOGLE!) to get a search feature? Well finally they have one. Not that I want to send you to a competitor, but if you are using a web based blog reader, not that powerful, then you should look at Google Reader.Anyway, check out this post from Search Engine Land: News About Search Engines & Search Marketing:
"The Google Reader Blog
announced several new features for Google Reader. The big feature is search. You can now search your subscriptions, including subscriptions to shared items. Google Reader also enhanced the unread count numbers to show up to a 1,000, as opposed to up to 100 unread subscriptions. Plus you can now hide the left hand pane and use your back and forward browser buttons.

While we’ve been doing more work on improving our Feed Library software, and helping some new customers get up and running with it, we’ve not sat still on our flagship product, BlogBridge Desktop. As usual you can see the details in our History of Changes.
Suffice it to say that our “What’s Hot” feature is even hotter. If you haven’t tried it, give yourself a treat and click on that lightbulb icon in the toolbar and get your personal Meme tracker based on the feeds that you follow. Say goodbye to TechMeme and shine the BlogBridge spotlight on the topics you care about!
In case you are new to this site, let me give you a quick explanation of our versions.
Every 2 weeks we release a (”weekly”) Development Release, which has a version number that looks like #.## or for example 5.10. This means that it’s the 10th development release after release 5.
Every “so often” we release what we call a Stable Release. They always have a version number that looks like this: #. or for example 5.0. (If we need to do quick patch on a stable release we will tack an additional number on, so for example 5.0.1.)
For most people we recommend that you run the newest Stable Release which as of now is 5.0.1. They are well tested, stable, and reliable. If you are a little adventurous and want to see the new features just as soon as we implement them, you might want to try our Development Releases. They are less thoroughly tested and will often have incomplete features. But they are almost always safe to use and won’t cause you any problems.
