Announcing BlogBridge 2.11, “The Invisible”
Why “The Invisible“? The biggest, most important change in this release is all but invisible to the casual user.
With BlogBridge 2.11, duplicate Feeds are automatically combined together. Meaning: if I add Pito’s Blog to Guide “A” and then add it to Guide “B” too, BlogBridge considers them the same Feed. Marking one “all read” marks both “all read”. Changing the BlogStarz on one changes it in both. They behave as, and actually are one and the same. This little change makes both Reading Lists and Synchronization work a lot better and more intuitively. Please send us your feedback.
Other than that major change, this release has an additional major improvement in Synchronization, which is more intelligent handling of deleted Feeds. No longer should you see a Feed you deleted reappear after a synchronization. Yay! Synchronization is a major feature of BlogBridge, and so we are working hard to perfect it. Please send us your feedback there as well.
So yes, both those changes were big, important, and probably not noticeable to anyone other than hard-core BlogBridge power users. But believe me, your life will be improved. At least your blogging life. Actually, only your BlogBridge life, but you get the idea.
Version 2.11 is a “Weekly” (development) release. Those of you running the weekly release will get an automatic upgrade. If you are running the stable release and are interested in trying the weekly release, see below.
As usual, please keep your feedback coming in: what you like, what you hate, and what you like to eat.

Given this scenario: I have a subscription with the BlogBridge Service but do a fresh install of BlogBridge weekly on my computer.
How do I tell BlogBridge about my account? It’s possible to create a new one in the wizard, but if you decline that, the menu point keeps grayed out - no way to set it up.
How is that supposed to work?

Weird. Let me review:
- In the Setup sequence, you answer “do not create a service account”.
- You complete the setup sequence without filling anything else in.
- BlogBridge’s window opens
- Choose Tools/BlogBridge Service…
- Fill in your email and password
- And click Synchronize Now.
That’s how it’s supposed to work today. We have an enhancement in mind for this case, which is to add an option in addition to “don’t create a service account”, which is “I already have a service account.”

Is there a chance to have the weeklys etc as pre-packaged .exes? My usecase probably is somewhat exotic, but I use Blogbridge for collecting feeds when online, which I then the read on the bus, in the train etc without a network connection, so using Java WebStart really isn’t an option to me. So far, there are two things with Blogbridge (2.7) that bogger me, and I wanted to know if they are still there in 2.11. However, if I’m forced to use WebStart to test this, I won’t.
Thanks
Lars

Lars, we are planning another stable release in the next 2 weeks. However what is the problem with running Web Start while disconnected? You know that the app is fully downloaded to your laptop and once Web Start detects that there is no net connection, it just runs in a disconnected mode? At least that’s what is supposed to happen. Have you experienced otherwise? Pito

Pito,
I must have misunderstood some vital part of WebStart which lead me to the assumption that I *must* be connected to the internet when running it. Silly me… However, I had other problems when running Blogbridge over WebStart: Here at work I we have a limitation on the profile size (under Windows) on 20 MB, and there was no way to tell Blogbridge to put its data etc somewhere else, so I was (am) forced to install manually, making sure that the blogs are stored somewhere else but in my profile…
Thanks
Lars
