BlogBridge 2.7 (Stable)

Filed under: Announcements, BlogBridge — Pito Salas on 4:34 pm

BlogBridge 2.7 was released today with lots of bug fixes and little improvements … and one HUGE improvement.

For the first time we are offering regular installers on all platforms. Yeah, back to the future.

Those of you who have been following BlogBridge know that we’ve had a love-hate relationship with the infamous Java Web Start - which is Java’s deployment and installation scheme. It works well when it works well and when it doesn’t it is a huge headache for users (and so for us.)

Here’s all you do to get BlogBridge up and running:

  • For Windows XP users, click here to download an installer which will create a nice normal program icon on your desktop.
  • For Mac OS X users, click here to download and install our Mac version, again with a nice normal program icon on your desktop.
  • And for you Linux users, click here for the TGZ. You can download and unpack it in any locations, and you will find blogbridge.sh which is used to start the application. I assume you know how to do that.

Ok so this doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, right? Well it is to us. The most common support issue that we have had were install related. In fact you can see our FAQ peppered with trouble shooting tips to get around them. So, please try the new installer - you will love it!

By the way, if you are really really fond of Java Web Start, we continue to offer that, although we recommend that you use one of the links above. Click here to downloadand install BlogBridge with Java Web Start.

  1. I just noticed that with the new .exe installation method there’s no longer a proxy support.
But with the old one I have the proxy support which is included in Java Web Start.

  2. I’ve tried to download the Mac DMG file a couple of times in both firefox and safari, and each time I try to open it I get told the disk image is corrupt.

    Any ideas?

  3. No proxy support just kills me!!
Here behind my firewall, Java Webstart doesn’t work, and the .exe installer creates a very nice BlogBridge application… that doesn’t see internet.
All the other RSS aggregator I’ve tried up to now feature proxy support, even the most hideous ones — you don’t :-((

  4. Another vote for proxy support.

No proxy = no BlogBridge. Most Annoying.

  5. Need proxy support. It is useless without it.
